Use Scratch to Create and Animate a Bird (or any animal!)

Our 3rd graders are ornithologists at Weaver Lake -- they study birds all year long.  In the spring of every year, they put their bird knowledge to work and they design their own species of bird, including adaptations and considerations that will help it to survive in its habitat.  Students then use Scratch to draw their bird and program it to move around within its habitat and share 3 facts about itself.  This project is a great example of the ways coding can be integrated into a curricular area to extend the learning and give students the power to create something new.

Here are the steps we follow -- feel free to use them or tweak them to fit your context!
